Transition to ACRE 2
#1
All,

Following consultation between Command Staff, the NCO Corps, and many lower enlisted, we are excited to announce the unit will be transitioning to ACRE 2 for in-game communications.

ACRE is an alternative to Task Force Radio that prioritizes realism. There are many neat features and improvements: a feature list can be found here, and there are lots of videos/guides online to introduce you to the mod. Every radio is lavishly simulated, not only in regards to physical operation (menus, frequency scanning, encryption, etc.) but also in transmission. For example, radios are now semi-duplex, and radio occlusion occurs proportionately to terrain like hills, trees, and buildings. AI will hear and react to your voice in direct chat -- which has in itself been drastically improved -- and there is even a feature that scrambles the voices of players on opposing sides into fake "languages" called the Babel system. You are highly encouraged to boot up the game and explore ACRE with your battle buddies over the week.

There are obviously some significant adjustments we will have to make on the squad and platoon level as we adjust to this new system. Command Staff and the NCO Corps have discussed these, so leadership is all on the same page; expect to be fully informed during your squad drills. We will work on this and general familiarization with ACRE over the weekend.

There will no doubt be some growing pains as we make this transition, but we expect you all to handle issues maturely. Serious problems can be brought up through the usual methods (i.e. talking to your CoC or posting in the Suggestion Box / Technical Issues forums). After a few weeks to adjust and get used to the new system, we're confident ACRE will feel even more natural than TFAR did.

The modpack update is live as of time of posting. Review our new sticky on installing mods to ensure you download everything correctly. The Zeus template will be updated within 24 hours.

Thanks,

This post has been updated to REMOVE a reference to fireteam members losing their radios. This has not been confirmed, and may not happen. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
